Model: Centrex 1000, installed 1995
Location: Installed in cottage in Redwood, NY
Reviewed By: Barbara Kinner
When Barbara built her beautiful home on the Lake, she had to work
out how to deal with the problem of building on solid rock. Luckily, a
friend suggested what she describes as "the perfect answer", a Centrex.
When Barbara's family visits there are as many as 12-15 people. She is
"very satisfied with the unit cost wise and maintenance wise", and has
recommended the unit to several people.
We are really pleased about that!

White 4" pipe is for gutter drains and has nothing to do with
Centrex. Units sits behind lattice that easily lifts off for access.
The unit works very well and I extended the season by heating the air
through a 3" intake duct on a thermostat.

There was only an outhouse which my wife refused to use. We inquired
into getting a holding or septic. The cost was going to be around
$8000.00. Our cottage is halfway down a hill. A septic pump would have
to be installed and the holding tank would have to be above our
cottage. I did not want the solid waste above our head. We installed
Centrex because cost was very reasonable and on a test basis three
years later, we still love it!

In 1999 I had a Sun-Mar toilet installed in my cottage at Liscomb,
Nova Scotia, and I am very pleased with my decision to do so. I chose
Sun-Mar because three friends have used this kind in their summer homes
for approximately five years.

dinner. Five in the group were guests at the cottage for a four day
weekend. | |

Our cabin is on a hillside (see photo), lots of rock and gravel. No place to put a septic system, even if we wanted one.
The 510 bowl has a straight drop to the Centrex 1000 in a insulated,
heated containment unit under the floor. A flip up door allows for
turning the crank without total loss of heat for winter use, very dry
year, lots of drywells, doesn't worry us. The environment office
suggested a compost unit when I called for a site inspection. |

This is the third composting toilet we have had - we graduated
from the dry self-contained to the Centrex. With minimal maintenance
the system is efficient and cheap to operate. We are very happy
with it.
