Customer Reviews For This Product
The SPACESAVER is a medium capacity electric self-contained toilet that's designed for places where space is extremely limited. Its tiny profile of 19-1/2" wide by 23" deep means that it's only slightly larger than a standard toilet seat. Now even a closet or small corner nook can be turned into a bathroom! The SPACESAVER is also a waterless unit, meaning you won't have to worry about plumbing in water lines when you install it.
The SPACESAVER has a standard 2" vent stack that exits vertically, straight out the top of the unit, or it can be specially configured to exit invisibly through the rear of the toilet. You can specify your choice when you place your order. (Please note, there is no upcharge for the rear venting option; however, it will require a 1-2 week lead time before the unit will ship.)

The Composting Toilet Store sells only Sun-Mar brand composting toilets because they are the only composting toilets to be tested and certified by the NSF! What does this mean? The NSF, or National Sanitation Foundation, has established a standard for composting toilets in North America, the NSF/ANSI Standard #41-1999. Only Sun-Mar composting toilets are certified by the NSF for residential and/or seasonal use. This means that all our composting toilets have been tested by an NSF recognized independent testing laboratory for 6 months at maximum capacity, and they are certified to operate without odor and produce a clean, safe compost. For verification, please see Sun-Mar's NSF Listing.
How to operate the SPACESAVER:
- For initial start up, add some Compost Sure (peat bulking material) into the Bio-Drum together with some Microbe Mix.
- Use any toilet paper you want; the composting toilet will compost it without a problem.
- For ongoing operation, add Compost Sure as specified in the product instruction manual. Every 2-3 days (while unit is in use), rotate the drum 5 or 6 full revolutions. For weekend use, just rotate before you leave at the end of the weekend.
- When the Bio-Drum is half to 2/3 full, some of the compost should be moved to the finishing drawer. To do this, simply release the drum lock and rotate the drum backwards. Finished compost drops automatically into the finishing drawer. This process takes less than a minute, and most importantly, you never come into contact with fresh material.
- When compost is moved to the finishing drawer, it should be left there for at least 4 weeks so it can finish and sanitize. In the finishing drawer, it will be isolated from contamination by fresh material in the toilet. Once 4 weeks have passed, you can remove the finished compost from the finishing drawer at any time. The drawer is easily pulled out by hand; no tools are needed to open it.
- What do you do with the finished compost? Add it to your flower garden! The finished product is clean, dry, non-offensive, and sanitary. It will look and smell just like any other regular compost that might come out of a garden composter.

Model: Spacesaver, installed 2000
Location: Installed in cottage in Topeka, KS
Reviewed By: Weidner
Bill's
SpaceSaver is installed at the Weidner cottage which is used nearly 365
days a year. He reports that "installation was a 'snap', I installed it
myself in less than 2 hours." He opted for a Sun-Mar because of
the cost of a septic system and the fact that he didn't want to disturb
the trees around his cottage. He also likes the idea of being able to
use the compost for his plants. "I have nothing but praise for the
Sun-Mar", enthuses Mr. Weidner..
